NAR® Ethics Requirement

What is needed to comply with the NAR Quadrennial Ethics Requirement?

NAR implemented a Code of Ethics training policy on January 1, 2001, which requires quadrennial ethics training for every REALTOR® member of NAR.   The current quadrennial cycle began on January 1, 2009 and will end on December 31, 2012.  All members of RANWC as well as all REALTORS® who are non-members of RANWC, but members of NAR, must have satisfied this requirement through taking a minimum of 2.5 hours of qualified Ethics training.

Have I completed the Ethics requirement?

If you have taken New Member Orientation between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2012, then you have completed the Ethics requirement for cycle 3.  If you have questions about the date you took New Member Orientation, please call the Association at 847-506-5002.

If you have taken a CE Ethics course through RAWNC which counts for both CE credit and Ethics credit between the dates of January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2012, then you have completed the Ethics requirement for cycle 3.  If you have any questions about when you took a CE Ethics course, please visit the IDFPR CE Look-up.

If you have successfully completed an Ethics training course through another approved REALTOR® school or REALTOR® Association, please have the documentation stating successful completion of your training faxed to RANWC at 847-253-8145. ***The school's ethics training needs to be certified through the association in order for it to qualify to meet the NAR requirement.  Not all ethics courses taken for CE at schools outside of RANWC will qualify.***

The following school's Ethics courses do not qualify to fulfill the NAR requirement:
*Institute for Continuing Education, Inc. (4ice.com) "About Ethics in Real Estate"
*Real Estate Institute (InstituteOnline.com) "Ethical Practice"

If you have completed the Ethics training via the NAR website free online training course.  Please turn in documentation stating successful completion of your training via fax to RANWC at 847-253-8145.

If you are not sure the Association has a record that you have taken the Ethics requirement, please call us at 847-506-5002.

Is the Board offering Ethics classes?

RANWC offers Ethics training through Continuing Education classes that are taught by the top instructors in the Illinois at a location near you.  Taking your Ethics training with an approved Ethics CE class not only will help you fulfill the NAR requirement, but on top of that, you will be earning 3 hours of elective CE credit as well.
